Tunes To Teens Gets Kids Excited About A Cappella

When choir students at San Marin High School in Novato, California, got a box full of a cappella CDs for them to keep, the result was immediate and electric. They chose the CDs they wanted, listened to them and then enthusiastically shared the music they liked best, music teacher Emily Gates said. "The CDs were a big hit with my kids. Several have brought theirs in to let us hear their favorite cut," she said. The students got the music through CASA's Tunes for Teens program, which distributes new and used a cappella CDs among junior high and high school choirs to raise awareness of a cappella music. Since its inception in the fall of 2003, the program has sent more than 700 CDs to choruses at 17 schools in the United States and Canada.
