“It’s an uphill battle for a little indie like us to attract an audience,” says the film’s writer/director Bruce Leddy, who himself sang in college with the Willams Octet, “but I think if we can get the a cappella community to turn out for that first weekend, the word-of-mouth might really help the film take off. And that would lead a lot of people to discover and appreciate a cappella who might not have before.”
The soundtrack features a cappella versions of songs by Coldplay, Ben Folds Five, John Mayer, Sting, and Phil Collins as well as classics from Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, and Mack Gordon. It features performances by a variety of college a cappella groups such as Tufts Beelzebubs, MIT Logarhythms, Oxford’s Out of the Blue, and UVAs Academical Village People, as well as a super-group of a cappella performers led by former Rockapella leader Sean Altman. And make sure you check out the priceless cameo by Sean’s fellow Rockapella alum Barry Carl. That’s worth the price of admission alone!
