This is also the first time they've had an a cappella group on the show.
The producers of MythBusters heard of Hookslide from their research team as being "pound for pound one of the loudest groups out there."
They contacted Bud Anderson of Prince/SF Productions looking for a strong baritone singer to test certain frequencies that have been rumored to put out a flame. “I gave them a great baritone and all of the other frequencies as well,” said Anderson, owner of Prince/SF Productions and booking agent for Hookslide.
The episode premiers on Wednesday, April 11 at 9PM on the Discovery Channel with repeated airings on April 12, 14, 17, and 21. The group could see additional face time in extended reruns of MythBusters in the future.
When asked what Hookslide would be doing on the show, Anderson said, “The group did a series of tests to attempt to put out a flame. Different frequencies, chords, buzz bass, vocal percussion unplugged and plugged in. When the group plugged in it was allowed to use 4- 5000-Watt speakers to attempt to put out the fire.
“We had a great time on the set. It was filmed at a water treatment plant in South San Francisco and we spent 9 hours interacting with the cast, crew and producers. The production team was wonderful to work with and they were very interested with where you can take the human voice. For the experiments we sang scales, unisons and a big crunchy cord to see if it would affect the flame.”
So was the myth busted or confirmed? You’ll have to tune in to MythBusters tomorrow night to find out.
