"College-age men find that the ringing chords of barbershop harmony are exciting, said Roger Lewis, interim chief executive officer for the Society. And, of course, he adds, laughing, singers are quite popular with females.

Collegiate contest ticket holders will also be given free admission to a special concert. The 2004 international chorus champion, Ambassadors of Harmony from St. Charles, Mo., will perform at 6 p.m. The Ambassadors chorus is contributing its talents to a special show benefiting the Barbershop Harmony Society.

The college quartet contest is judged under the same rules and criteria as regular Society quartets in international competition. Previous collegiate champions have enjoyed touring careers and continued to be active in the barbershop world. Vocal Spectrum, last years collegiate winner, will compete in the regular contest this year. The 1996 collegiate championFour Voiceswent on to win the gold in the 2002 regular contest, becoming the first-ever former collegiate champion to do so.

Hours are Monday (July 4), 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Saturday 8 a.m. to 12 noon.
