AUDITIONS

Swing Shift  is looking for a tenor. Rehearsing every Tuesday in Santa Monica, the group is a septet, looking for an experienced vocal jazz singer, with good sight-reading skills and an excellent ear for close jazz harmonies.

Swing Shift describes itself as follows: Swing Shift did not start life as a barbershop quartet.   Let's settle that right away.  Have a listen, and you'll understand.  Rich harmonies, lush arrangements, and finger-popping rhythms make this group one of the most artful exemplars on the contemporary a cappella scene.  This stylish vocal jazz group was formed in Santa Monica in 2002.  Swing Shift performs at private parties, churches, and malls, and can be seen harmonizing in clubs and other venues (until politely asked to leave, of course).  They also appeared as one of the featured a cappella groups on KLCS's television series "Mosaic".   Appearing in both the 2004 and 2005 Los Angeles regional Harmony Sweepstakes, Swing Shift won best arrangement honors for its 6-part version of "Where is Love?" from the musical Oliver!

Swing Shift specializes in jazz standards from the 30's on as well as popular songs from the 60's, and 70's.  You'll also hear their unique sound on contemporary pieces and music from Hollywood and Broadway.  The group sings arrangements from a variety of sources, including such well-known and admired arrangers as Gene Puerling and Darmon Meader.  The group also produces its own charts, with members Phil and Richard providing most of them.  If you love rich sounds, complex harmonies, and creamy-smooth blend, you'll love hearing this group.  And bring your ear muffs: these guys make a huge sound. (Gosh, maybe they were a barbershop quartet in a former life!)
