The heart of the acaTunes online store is the search page. Going well beyond simple song and album title, the acaTunes database can also be searched based on songwriter, arranger, school, soloist, vocal percussionist, original artist, producer, and engineer.
Of special interest to artists is the acaTunes licensing service, whereby acaTunes clears the publication licenses required to distribute cover songs. According to Mike Mendyke, acaTunes co-founder with Feldman, this service will save artists both time and money.
"The up front cost to license 150 downloads of one cover song is about $25, and $10 of that is a service fee," said Mendyke. "We've worked it out with the publishers of most cover songs where acaTunes can quickly and easily license these songs with no service fee, and we're passing this savings along to our artists. Now you can send us your recording, have us license it, and pay nothing up front to release it."
Available for preview at www.acaTunes.com, acaTunes is accepting applications and recordings from artists, and will begin to make selected downloads available for purchase in a few days.
