NBC’s “The Sing-Off” is a television first: a 4-night-only event that pits 8 a cappella groups of varying styles against each other, each vying for a Epic Records/Sony Music recording contract and a substantial cash prize. No lip-syncing or studio magic allowed. Show dates are 12/14-16 from 8-10pm, with the live finale on 12/21 from 8-10pm. The competing groups represent a variety of styles, ages and approaches, and come from all over the US, and Puerto Rico. The show will be hosted by Nick Lachey, with guest judges Ben Folds, Shawn Stockman, and Nicole Scherzinger.
Group Name: NOTA
Home: San Juan, Puerto Rico
Configuration: six men
Information about this group isn’t easy to find, but here are the basics: NOTA, the only Puerto Rican group in "The Sing-Off", was started recently by six men who had sung together in a cappella groups for more than 15 years after originally meeting in college. Members include Johnny Figueroa, Jose A. Rodriguez, Ludwig Henderson, Edgar Rios, Juan E. Diaz and David Lopez. The group prides itself on its “vocal fusion” — combining salsa, hip hop, reggaeton, R&B, merengue and jazz. Their favorite songs to perform are “I’m Yours”, “Billie Jean” and “LoveStoned”. In an interview for NBC.com, the men said they are proud to represent Puerto Rico and to give Puerto Ricans a chance enjoy a cappella music, while getting their minds off political turmoil in the territory.
