NBC’s “The Sing-Off” is a television first: a 4-night-only event that pits 8 a cappella groups of varying styles against each other, each vying for a Epic Records/Sony Music recording contract and a substantial cash prize. No lip-syncing or studio magic allowed. Show dates are 12/14-16 from 8-10pm, with the live finale on 12/21 from 8-10pm. The competing groups represent a variety of styles, ages and approaches, and come from all over the US, and Puerto Rico. The show will be hosted by Nick Lachey, with guest judges Ben Folds, Shawn Stockman, and Nicole Scherzinger. We'll be running group profiles here on CASA.org up until the day of the first show (12/14), and today we feature two groups, MAXX Factor and FACE.

Group Name: MAXX Factor
Home: MAXX Factor
Established: 2004
Configuration: four women

MAXX Factor, from Baltimore, MD is an all-female barbershop quartet, and the only barbershop group of the bunch. The group formed in 2004, and the current incarnation has been together since 2007. MAXX Factor are the 2009 Harmony Sweepstakes champions, and winners of the ‘09 mid-Atlantic regional. In addition, they are the current 2010 THIRD Place Sweet Adelines International Quartet medalists. They have traveled extensively, both nationally and internationally. The group has one CD, “Maxx Sixx Pack”.

The current members have won several awards collectively and individually: Lead Leslie Wodday became a Queen of Harmony in 2000 with Signature Sound Quartet. She joined MAXX in August of 2007. Founder Valerie Hadfield-Rasnake is a barbershop brat. She sang with Region 19 medalist Quartets Ritz Carleton and Vanity Fair. Co-founder Baritone Kim Hudson, also a barbershop brat, has sung with Region 19 medalist quartet Vanity Fair. Prior to joining MAXX in 2005, Tenor Molly Plummer sang with Region 19 multi-medalist quartet RhythmWorks. Molly and Valerie are members of the International medalist chorus Pride of Baltimore. Kim and Leslie, currently

Chapter-at-Large, have competed internationally with the Pride of Baltimore chorus.

Leslie Wodday tells CASA: "MAXX Factor is having fun, learning new music like crazy, and working hard to make you proud!!  Wish us luck and go to http://www.nbc.com/sing-off and vote, vote, vote for your favorite!!!!"
