Blake Lewis will appear as a special guest in next weekend’s Mile High Vocal Jam at Hinkley High School in Aurora, CO on October 23rd and 24th.  Blake, a second place runner-up in season 6 of American Idol will be sure to be a great addition to the Jam.  The Mile High Vocal Jam is a fun-filled two day event in its 3rd year of providing memorable experiences for students, and professional/amateur singers looking to learn more about a cappella music.  This year’s Vocal Jam will be held in Hinkley High School’s main auditorium and surrounding classrooms.  The high school is located at 1250 Chambers Rd., just south of Colfax and Chambers Rd. in Aurora.  Twelve groups from area colleges and high schools will travel from across the region to participate in this year’s incredible event.

One of the highlights of the 2009 Vocal Jam will be the professional concert on Friday night, with amazing local and nationally recognized groups: Mile 21 from The University of Colorado, who won last year’s competition; and headliner groups: Face, local a cappella superstars, who have appeared regularly around the Boulder-Denver area and around the country for 8 years; The Bobs, based in San Francisco, have been packing venues for more than two decades with programs that feature funny cover songs and are known as one of the premier groups in the country; and The House Jacks, also based in San Francisco, are considered the original "rock band without instruments" and are an incredible display of contemporary rock a cappella. Not to mention the talents of beatbox and singer extraordinaire, Blake Lewis of American Idol, making several appearances throughout the weekend.  This is definitely one of the most talent-rich a cappella shows in the Denver area in years, and music lovers and a cappella enthusiasts alike will not want to miss it.

On Saturday there will be an incredible schedule with clinics for groups and individuals focused on performance, singing, beatboxing, technology, recording, and 1 on 1 group clinics for all competing groups with some of the most seasoned performers, producers and professional a cappella singers from around the country. The day will also include free lunch and a “lunch box beatbox competition” for any attendee to participate in.  The conference/clinics portion of the Vocal Jam is the main reason why this event was established, and is a great opportunity for singers of all ages to learn from some of the best in the business.

Saturday night features a competition for attending college and high school groups, where they will compete for bragging rights and very cool prizes and will also feature some of the clinicians from the weekend as well as local artist judges to pick the winners.

Group registrations for all those wishing to compete in the Vocal Jam will be $350.  Non-competing group registrations are $300 (limited to 20 members per group).  The Saturday conference/clinics are also open to individuals, and full weekend registrations are available for $50 for adults and $35 for students.  A full registration includes: tickets to the Friday night professional show, admittance to all clinics on Saturday, and a ticket to the competition on Saturday evening.  Registrations must be purchased by October 9th, so act fast!  Additionally, individual event tickets are available for the Friday night show at $30 for VIP seating, General Admission seating for $20 for adults and $15 for students.  Saturday night competition tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students, and will be available at the door as well as on the website for both nights.  These are all-ages, family-friendly events and are not limited to high school and college aged singers or musicians.  One of the original goals of this event was to spread awareness and create a broader fan base to support local a cappella groups. A cappella enthusiasts and singers as well as anyone looking for an affordable and memorable musical experience are welcome.
