This week, CASA's Bill Hare is attending the Aarhus Vocal Festival in Denmark.  Every day, he will be reporting back to us at CASA, so you can watch as it happens!

DAY 2 - MAY 8, 2009

Jens Johansen opens day 2 with some stretches.  Despite last night's ridiculously late party
(where they announced "beer was mandatory"), hundreds of people show up before 9AM for the warm ups!
As we were warming up on some Stevie Wonder, The Real Group arrived, just off the plane from their tour in Korea.
Video clip of the warmups here, with Anders Edenroth sneaking up on me at the end!

A few of the 12 simultaneous workshops at 9:30!  With so many participants, there
have to be a lot of choices!  From top: Thue Thesbjerg, Andrea Figallo,
Anders Edenroth, Morten Kjær, Jim Daus Hjernøe.

Preparing for next year!  The people running the 2010 event in Norway are here
with plenty of info, and a looped big screen travelogue of the sights of Trondheim.
Start making your plans to go!

A rainy day in Aarhus out the window of one of the workshops.

They've doubled the size of the already impressive Musikhuset since last I was here.
This theater is brand new, where they are holding the choral competition today.
Prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place (in Danish Kroner) are 25,000 DKr, 15,000 DKr, and 7,500 DKr
(about $4500, $2700, and $1350).

Some of these groups are quite large, which definitely helps
the overall attendance of the festival!  These groups are both from Germany.

Waiting in line for tonight's concert

The show starts with Norway's Apes and Babes, in a take-no-prisoners performance.

Next, The Real Group showed why they are the best in the world.
After the concert ended at 11PM, the "Night Stage" opened next door in the
Ridehuset complex, and is still going on now in the wee hours of the morning!
