Old Town School of Folk Women's Choir
How to describe the Old Town School of Folk Music's Women's Choir? Start with ecclectic - we sing a little bit of everything: Gregorian chants, popular songs from all eras, selections from musicals and operas, traditional Celtic ballads, holiday music from a wide range of countries and beliefs, Gaelic Masses, and pretty much any song we can find that you can put into harmony parts! During any particular performance, we might start with a light, fun song such as "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend," segue into an operatic aria, and end with an Irish ballad such as "Bhríd Óg Ní Mháille." We are here to have fun, and to make sure our audiences have fun, but we also take our craft seriously so that we can give our audiences the highest quality performance we possibly can!
We have had the pleasure of singing at the Old Town School of Folk Music's annual Folk and Roots Festival several times, and have sung the national anthem for such groups as the Schaumburg Flyers baseball team. Recently, we sang Gaelic masses for the McNulty Irish Dancers, as well as for the annual Irish Mass at St. Mary of Gostyn Catholic Church in Downers Grove. Last spring we had the honor of singing for the Gaelic Mass held during the annual North American Comhaltas Convention. Our choir has also had the great pleasure of singing at weddings and other special occasions.
