than there are cars jammed into the mall parking lot. It's
Christmastime in the city, and everyone from Allison Krauss to the
Barenaked Ladies to Regis Philbin has a Christmas album. Take, for
example, the gem I currently have sitting in my stereo: the Rockapella
Christmas album.
Dig this: the five-man a cappella group
graduated from Brown sometime in the '80s. A brilliant example of how,
at Ivy League universities, you can parlay an extracurricular activity
into a career, the intrepid young graduates sang on street corners in
the Big Apple. In 1992, they added a vocal percussionist. Rockapella as
we know it was born.
