
The quartet reformed with different members in 1980 and Waters, a tenor, joined other members in winning two Grammys — for best traditional soul gospel album "I Couldn't Hear Nobody Pray" in 1998, and for contributions to the hit movie soundtrack "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" in 2002.
In 1989, the Fairfield Four was awarded a National Heritage Fellowship by the National Endowment for the Arts.
