Saturday night’s show will also be one to remember as several world-renowned professional a cappella groups take the stage, including the Contemporary A Cappella Recording Award (CARA) winning, Canadian funktastic vocal sensation, Cadence, NYC’s gritty, allupinyourface, CARA-winning explosion of sound, Duwende, and CARA-winning vocal percussionist extraordinaire, Dave Baumgartner. The night begins with a special performance by Friday night’s winning collegiate group! The concert starts at 7:30 and tickets are general admission, so get there early to ensure a good seat.
In addition to two action-packed concerts during the evenings, SoJam will offer daytime master classes, seminars and showcase concerts at Meredith College led by the performing groups, as well as other a cappella talent including gifted vocalist and a cappella producer/engineer Dave Sperandio, founder of Diovoce Productions and Alliance for A Cappella Initiatives, CARA-winning arranger Joseph Bates, and many others. The Seminars and master-classes cover an array of topics ranging from vocal percussion technique, to an album production round table, to a discussion of the ever growing Women’s A Cappella movement, plus much, much more. Additionally, there will be numerous chances for attending groups to strut their stuff in the daily JAM! Sessions.
Proceeds from SoJam will go towards The A Cappella Fund, a first-of-its kind endowment designed to enable a cappella groups from across the southeast to continue evolving as both musicians and role models. The A Cappella Fund will benefit talented groups across the region to share in the experiences that their brethren from the northeast have enjoyed. All who attend SoJam will not only have a truly one-of-a-kind weekend experience, but will also help support and promote contemporary a cappella music as an art form and cultural phenomenon. SoJam is already creating quite a ‘buzz’ around area campuses, and the public is beginning to catch on to the vocal vibe!
SoJam will undoubtedly have something for everyone, and it’s guaranteed that you’ve never seen – or heard – anything quite like it!
