Pitt Pendulums
The University of Pittsburgh's Pitt Pendulums take their name from Edgar Allen Poe's short story, "The Pit and the Pendulum." Poe writes, "There was a discordant hum of human voices! There was a loud blast as of many trumpets!... Very suddenly there came back to my soul motion and sound- the tumultuous motion of the heart, and in my ears the sound of its beating... Then a rushing revival of soul..." The Pendulums feel Poe perfectly expresses the power of music.
