3 Day A cappella Music Festival Raises Eyebrows and Money For Charity

RESTON, VA – March 27, 28, 29, 2009 – Over 100 of the best professional a cappella singers from Germany, Denmark and the United States will take the stage at South Lakes High School for the annual 3 day a cappella music festival, “SingStrong” from March 27 to 29, 2009.

The a cappella groups will use only their voices to perform leads, harmonies and to vocally imitate a virtual orchestra of sounds –including jazz trumpet, classical strings, distorted electric guitar and a full drum set. 100% of the event profits go towards the Alzheimer’s Association.
The SingStrong 8PM Friday Night Concert, “A cappella Idol”  is an a cappella competition in the style of American Idol. Winner take all. First place is $1,000 and audience members get to vote. Participants include: Tonic & Gin, Skyline, Snowday, Euphonism, Passing Notes, Unforgettable, members of VocalLine, Cartoon Johnny and more!
The SingStrong 8PM Saturday Night Concert is a fast-paced sampler of the world’s greatest a cappella groups featuring Vocaldente (German jazz), VocalLine (Denmark avante guard), Blue Jupiter (New York-based pop and jazz and past winners of the Oreo Cookie Jingle Contest), Eclipse (pop-rock from Utah), and elmoTHUMM (contemporary doo-wop from Michigan).
There are also discount matinee concerts on Saturday and Sunday at 2pm.
Beginning at 10AM on Saturday and Sunday, SingStrong will present more than 20 master classes on such topics as producing a CD, starting an a cappella group, beatboxing, copyright law, and musical arranging. These classes are designed to help anyone interested in a cappella take their skills to the next level.
“Adults love the pure harmonies and musical complexity; kids love the beats and style” said Jonathan Minkoff, the Producer for the all-vocal festival. “Our students simply could not believe it when the contemporary a cappella groups performed all these different styles  –all completely a cappella.” said South Lakes High School choral director Rita Gigliotti. ‘Who’s playing the instruments?’ There aren’t any! It’s just voices!”
Tickets start at ten dollars. Discount tickets, a full schedule of events and information are all available at www.SingStrong.org.
