HomeLatest album by a cappella singer-musician Petra Haden based entirely on movie themes

Petra Haden is amused by a recent drawing of her in The New Yorker.

"I was happily singing in the shower, about to be stabbed," she says, laughing.

It was a parody of the infamous scene in "Psycho" where Janet Leigh's character meets her grisly demise. The drawing accompanied an article on Haden's new CD, "Petra Goes to the Movies," which includes the main theme from "Pyscho" - not the shrieking violins of the shower scene.

Haden, if you are not aware, is a singer (and a violinist), and on "Movies" (Anti-Records) she does multi-vocal tracking - everything from the horns to the percussion with her voice - to create themes from films such as "Rebel Without a Cause," "Cool Hand Luke," "Superman," "8 1/2" and "A Fistful of Dollars."
