Paul Wraalstad, the director of Campus Entertainment had talked with me over the past few years about doing a bigger event, and on Friday November 7th Concordia College presented their first annual "Battle of the A Cappella Bands!" They sent out invites to college groups across the midwest, with the first 4 to reply getting to compete. The stage was set, with the professional group InPulse hosting the event. The judges for the evening were myself, Matt McDonald (InPulse), Paul Fladland (Great Plains Harmony) and Dar Johnson (Dakota Harmony). The 4 groups competeing were 5th Element from The University of Wisconsin Eau Claire, Scotch Tape from Macalaster College, 7 Days from the University of Minnesota and Concordias own Six Appeal.

Each group was given a 20 minute time limit and was given warnings while on stage. All 4 groups did great, it is always fun to see new groups.

The winners for the night were:

Best Arrangement: Michael Brookens (Six Appeal). Song: 4-song medley of maroon 5, U2, HelloGoodbye and Imogen Heap.

Best Vocal Percussion: Eric Taylor (Six Appeal).

Best Soloist: Nels Urtel (5th Element). Song: Let's Get It On (marvin Gaye).

Grand Champion: Six Appeal

Paul Wraalstad is already talking about next years event and they are hoping to have more groups and a bigger event.
