EMC Events - Prepare yourselves Kingston for the night of your life next Sunday. For the first time ever, the world-famous, six-person Finnish a cappella group Rajaton will be gracing us with their presence at the Sydenham Street United Church on Sunday June 10.

The group, whose name is Finnish for 'Boundless', first formed in 1997 in their hometown of Helsinki, Finland, explained event co-ordinator and Open Voices choir director Andy Rush.

At the beginning, Rajaton toured only in Europe, but they made their first trip to North America in 2001 for the Festival 500, a huge international choir festival in St. John's, Nfld. They were the hit of the festival, and have been expanding their tours to North America since then.

While the group sings mainly a cappella music, they are well-known for their other shows as well.

"They also have a hugely varied palette of programs that they can sing. They do Finnish music...and they're quite good friends with Abba so they do an Abba show," said Rush.
