Committed and Afro-Blue Vocal Band spread the love to University students on Valentine’s Day.

“Tonight, we wanted to make sure we have the intimate songs in there for Valentine’s Day,” said Robert Pressley, a member of Committed. “If somebody happens to be arguing with their significant other tonight, we just hope the song will bring them closer together.”

Committed, like Afro-Blue, came to prominence competing on NBC’s a capella sing-off “The Sing-Off.”

Afro-Blue member John Kenniebrew said an entire section of the set list was devoted to the theme of love.

“We’re gonna be singing songs like ‘We Belong Together’ and ‘Need You Now,’” he said. “They all tell the hardships of relationships, but how in the end you want it all to work out.”

Trenton Cokley, a vocalist for Afro-Blue, said he just wants the audience to leave feeling loved, especially since it was Valentine’s Day.

Season two winner Committed — which also includes vocalists Therry Thomas, Dennis Baptiste, Tommy Gervais, Geston Pierre and Maurice Staple — dedicated some songs to the national love holiday; but within those songs, the group also brought its special implementations onstage, Pressley said.

“We’re definitely going to have our Committed moments,” he said. “Chords, tight harmonies and bell-tones — we try to bring those into every song we do.”

Committed’s set included songs such as “Hold My Hand,” “Let’s Stay Together” and “Battle Cry.”
