The Baudboys, an eight-man a cappella group made up exclusively of Microsoft employees and alumni, have been chosen as a “Wild Card” candidate for the 1st ever “Battle of the Geek Bands,” but they need your help to get there.  The contest, presented as part of the 2011 Seattle Interactive Conference, will bring together five selected bands with ties to the “Geek” industry to compete in front of celebrity judges for the title of Seattle’s Best Geek Band.

The only a cappella group in the competition, the Baudboys have been chosen as one of two “People’s Choice Wild Card” groups, along with local rock group Afraid of Figs.  The group that receives the most votes in an online poll by Monday afternoon will take the final spot in the SIC showcase concert on November 1st at Seattle’s Showbox Sodo.  Judges for the event include Sir Mix-A-Lot, and Chris Ballew and Jason Finn of the Presidents of the United States of America.

The Baudboys are confident in their ability to compete against rock bands, but they need your help to get there:

The Sing-Off has brought a cappella even further into the mainstream, but groups like ours still fight against the bias that vocal groups are all about barbershop chords and plaid jackets,” said Dave McEwen, an 11-year Baudboys veteran, “We can rock with anybody – but we need help from the a cappella community in order to get the chance.

Fans can vote for the Baudboys at Geekwire.com, one of the sponsors of the Seattle Interactive Conference, but they should hurry:  The poll closes on Monday, October 24th at 5pm.

“It would be an honor to compete for the title of Best Geek Band,” said McEwen, “We have no fear going against electric guitars, and we have a few tricks up our sleeves, but in order to show what we can do we need to win this vote first.  Please visit the site and cast your ballot.  And remember: a vote for us is a vote for A Cappella!”

The Baudboys have performed up and down the West Coast for more than three decades, and are two-time champions of the Harmony Sweepstakes Northwest Region.  They released their first CD “Hello World” in 2009, and are currently hard at work in the production of their second album which will be released in early 2012.
