HeeBeeBGs is a chamber ensemble of the Bowling Green State University Men's Chorus. In the spring of 2007, Matt Young and Andrew Schultz co-founded and directed the group with the blessing of advisor Dr. William Skoog. Matt and Andrew auditioned for the HeeBeeBGs knowing members needed to be able and willing to take on the challenges entailed in starting a men’s a cappella group. A dedication to rehearse for multiple hours a week and the ability to perform a variety of songs in multiple genres was essential. With the HeeBeeBGs assembled, the group found success the first spring semester performing for sororities, Dance Marathon, BG sporting events, and other student organizations. Churches and local high schools also benefited from the HeeBeeBGs’ variety of music during their first semester of existence. The semester culminated with a debut concert in April in Jenson Hall showcasing eleven of Matt Young’s arrangements. The group officially became a student organization in the fall of 2007 and also added an additional advisor, Dr. Joseph Oravecz, the Associate Vice President of Student Affairs. With his guidance and that of Dr. Skoog, the group has continued their success on campus and in the surrounding area. Matt Young has graduated with his Masters in Music Theory and continues to arrange music for the HeeBeeBGs as he works on his doctorate at the University of Texas. Andrew Schultz continues to direct the group while working on his Masters in Choral Conducting and Business Administration. Eric Watts has taken on the role of President for the HeeBeeBGs organization providing leadership as the group grows in popularity. Five new members, including two freshman, have helped to continue the new tradition of providing audiences with a superb quality of music and outstanding entertainment.
