Dutch Pipers

The Union College Dutch Pipers all male a cappella group was founded in 1955 when 8 members of the Glee club split off to form the new group. Following the typical TTBB (tenor 1, tenor 2, bass 1, and bass2) set-up, the broke the octet into two to a part. This was how the group remained for over 20 years. Pipers in Front of the Nott Memorial 1963. The Dutch Pipers have been making recordings since the 1960's. They started out in '63 with a vinal recording named "The Sons of Union Sing", Volume 1. The A side is a compilation of Union fight songs. The B side displays the Pipers we know today with a variety of upbeat selections and humorous ballads. This at a time when doo-wop and a cappella as a genre were just becoming a reality. From the 1960s on the group went through many changes, evolving with the times as Union College made the change from all men to co-ed in the 1970s.
