Divine began as a small group of singers hand-picked from OSUs all-women choral ensemble Bella Voce by conductor Dr. Tina Bull one January in 2003. The intent was to have a female a cappella group representing OSU women. The original singers were Leah Brakebill, Alyssa Dart, Kellie Davis, Elizabeth Hammar Parker, and Susannah Maynard. Tinas goal was for them to become interested in forming a cohesive ensemble that would work independently to create their own performance sets and be featured for a few songs at every Bella Voce concert.

The very first performance was as an opening act for the Vagina Monologues in February 2003 at OSU. The group performed Nancy Sinatras These Boots Are Made for Walking, and the ladies enjoyed the experience so much that they decided to continue on with the ensemble and expand into their own entity. Rehearsals originally led by Dr. Bull turned into weekly group-directed efforts, and after debating various potential names, Divine was decided on.

It was recognized that, in order to progress as a strongly self-sufficient group, auditions must be held to gain a more solid and powerful sound. The first auditions that were held yielded an addition of four new members: Analicia Santos, Desiree Segura, Alexis Smith and Allison Williams. Within a year Divine had started establishing itself as OSUs premiere women a cappella group. Through many years of hard work, dedication, added talent and a constant drive to push the musical capabilities of each group member, Divine has grown into the ensemble it is today.

What most clearly defines this group is the amount of heart and soul these ladies put into the growth of this ensemble. Divine provides opportunity for women from different backgrounds and interests who love to sing to come together and share their passion for music with others. Divine is a sisterhood that creates lasting friendships and memories that come from the pure enjoyment that music brings to all of us, with the goal of sharing that experience to all who listen.
