The Beat

Created in September 2005 by Ethan Goodrich, Ben Pezzner, and Pei Kuo, The UCSD Beat comprised five members. Auditions were held in the beginning of the school year and membership quickly increased to twelve. It was a flagship year for The UCSD Beat, mainly because it is not customary to refer to something as "flagship" if it is not the first.

Encouraged by the success of the '05-'06 school year, The UCSD Beat came back even stronger the following year with eighteen members. The guys formed a satellite group called the Master Beaters and the girls, taking after the girl scout movement which copied off the boy scout movement, created their own satellite group called the Beatches. During shows, each group performs its own song much to the liking of the opposite sexes in the audience.

The Beat is a sexy acapella group, and they know how to put on a good show. Whether it is biweekly Friday afternoon performances on library walk, in the Price Center fountain, or in a Center Hall lecture room, The Beat beats all other coed acapella groups at UCSD. Well, except for the Tritones. They're badass. In any case, watch out for an acapella concert near you, keeping in mind that the closest one may be located directly behind you. When you least expect it. . .
