Like many musicians, Garth Mosbaugh comes from a line of musically inclined relatives.

What's surprising is just how far back that line extends. Mosbaugh, a singer with the Canadian-based a cappella group The Nylons, says there have been professional musicians in his family for 13 generations.

That includes his mother, who is a concert pianist. It also includes a line of Belgian violinists, such as Eugene Ysaye, Mosbaugh's great-grandfather, who was born in Belgium and eventually served as music director of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra from 1918 until 1922.
