A cappella singing comes in three main sizes:
- Small ensembles (generally 7 or fewer voices) with one voice per part
- College-style ensembles (generally 8 to 20 voices), usually with two to four voices per part
- Choruses of 16 or more voices, with four to 50 voices per part
The CASA Chorus program is designed to promote the growth of, and
cooperation among, choruses that sing contemporary a cappella, broadly
defined.
The program was first called the Urban Harmony Movement, which
started as a youth singing program for inner city schools. Over time it
evolved into an adult chorus program that currently includes three
active choruses in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Over the next ten years, the CASA Chorus program may expand to more than 1,000 choruses around the globe singing contemporary a cappella, allowing adults to have the same kind of fun singing as college a cappella groups.
