Rolling on the river: The Clearwater Festival charts a new course

A point of pride for the Clearwater Festival Great Hudson River Revival has always been the music. It has ranged from Cajun to cowpunk, from bluegrass to bagpipe, from swing to ska.
But the variety of sounds hasn't been matched by the variety of spectators, organizers say.
"For years we attempted to make the festival more diverse," says Roy Volpe, the festival's production manager. "No matter what we tried, it's been unsuccessful."
