Barbershop group brings harmony to the stage Print E-mail

The members of the Barbershop Harmony Society sing gut-busters and tearjerkers - uptempo harmonies like Hello Mary Lou and slow nostalgic melodies like Danny Boy.

Dressed in matching red vests and bow ties, their voices carry on an American music tradition that emerged in the 19th century.

It's a tradition that the mostly aging members hope to pass on to a new generation through their 59th Festival of Harmony Saturday at Belhaven College.

The Jackson barbershop group Magnolia Chorus will perform, as well as two guest barbershop quartets - the Colorado group Redline and Tennessee's Lunch Break, whose members will compete during the Barbershop Harmony Society's International Convention in Nashville later in June.
