Students enjoy unique musical experience |

Monday, March 31, the students of Sacred Heart Elementary School were exposed to music like they had never heard before. Rock, pop and R&B tunes rocked the auditorium, but not one musical instrument was in the room. The music was the creation of the a cappella group, Ball in the House.
A cappella is literally translated as without instruments. Yet the band’s music featured vocals with strong accompanying bass notes and percussion through the use of vocal effects. The students were introduced to the specialized speakers and mixing equipment, which allows the band to perform at optimum volume levels for the different sounds each member was adding to the whole. The students found it hard to believe that the songs they were enjoying were produced without any musical instruments.
