PRESS RELEASE
Two Contemporary A Cappella Groups Team Up To Promote Music Education
Philadelphia, PA June 2: The A Cappella Project - Philadelphia is joining forces with Snowday Vocal Band of Washington D.C. to present a Summer Clinic and Showcase Concert on July 30th, 2011. The clinic strives to engage a professional contemporary a cappella group to educate the singers of Project-Philly in rehearsal and presentation techniques. The showcase concert will begin with opening acts by both of Project-Philly's summer a cappella groups and feature Snowday, a professional quintet of a cappella singers.
The A Cappella Project - Philadelphia is a non-profit charitable organization based in King of Prussia, PA. Project-Philly sponsors an all-adult a cappella group in the fall and spring and two summer groups composed of college undergraduates and adult enthusiasts. The summer groups hold a benefit concert every summer to raise money for the Ani Fiordimondo Performing Arts Scholarship Fund, administered by the Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia. This year's benefit concert is on Friday, August 12 at Lower Merion High School.
The Clinic and Showcase Concert in July is a new event featuring Snowday Vocal Band, a professional contemporary a cappella group that specializes in educational events. Snowday was founded in early 2008 with the mission of bringing a cappella and vocal music into mainstream education. Started as a collaboration of several D.C. area groups, Snowday brings a diverse background of performance and education to the stage.
For the clinic, Project-Philly's summer groups will perform several of their songs on stage and receive direct feedback from the members of Snowday, who will also demonstrate techniques for the Project membership. Project-Philly members are primarily college undergraduates, many of whom are majoring in music education, and adult hobbyists who began their singing careers in various collegiate a cappella groups and continue their love of singing with Project-Philly.
Project-Philly and Snowday will be launching a fundraising campaign via Kickstarter.com on Friday, June 10 to support the expenses for this event. Search for "Summer Clinic and Showcase Concert" to contribute.
The Showcase Concert will take place on Saturday, July 30 at 7:00 PM in the auditorium of Lower Merion High School in Ardmore. The concert is open to the public. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students and seniors. For further information or to purchase a ticket or make a donation, visit http://projectphilly.org.
