SIX years ago Angus Turner arrived back in Melbourne after a stint at Oxford College as musical director of a barbershop group.
As a new tutor at the University of Melbourne's Trinity College, he thought an alternative to the more classically inclined college choir was needed, so Turner put up a few posters calling for auditions for a closed harmony, all-male a cappella group modelled on his experience overseas.
Next Wednesday night, the Trinity Tigers Tones, as the group is known, will take to the stage in the semi-finals of Australia's Got Talent, singing barbershop vocal harmony to many in the audience who have never heard it before.
