I don’t know if you know this, but there was a hurricane named Sandy that hit us last week.

Just when we thought the devastation was over, we were hit a week later by a snow storm.

I am very lucky to be staying in a home with power, water, heat, and food. But most of Long Island (where I live), New York, and New Jersey are still powerless, homeless, and hopeless. You may not realize this, but thousands of people will be without basic essentials till the end of the month, and the situation here is not getting better.

I don’t mean to depress you. I’m just sick of not being able to do anything about it. That’s why I’m calling for help from my aca-friends.

You (yes, you!) have the power to do something about it, because you (who, me?) have an a cappella group. I plan on holding an a cappella hurricane benefit concert within the next two to three weeks. If you could do the same, you would not only be helping a major cause, you’d also fulfill your “Jewish guilt quota” for the year.

Plus it would give your group an extra reason to sing. And is that really such a bad thing?

Email me at docacappella@gmail.com for more information. Keep singing out there.
