When NBC announced that the University of Delaware’s a cappella group would be among the contestants on this fall’s season of “The Sing-Off,” it was a surprise to many in the First State — but not the Deltones themselves.

They had already been to Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, Calif., last month to begin filming the televised singing contest and had kept the secret until NBC unveiled the 16 competing groups earlier this week.
After nearly two months of keeping the big news to themselves, the cat is out of the bag.

And no one is more happy about that than the Deltones.

“It was really hard keeping that secret. I mean, this is huge for us and it was really frustrating,” says Deltones singer Walter Pendleton, 19, of Newark. “It was really, really cool to finally be able to tell everyone. And once it hit Facebook, it just blew up.”

Like Pendleton, many of the Deltones are fans of “The Sing-Off” and decided to send a seven-minute audition tape to NBC in late May. It’s full of interviews with members, photos and clips of the group performing. Watch it here:
