The 2014 Rising Star Quartet Competition and Conference is hosted by the North Atlantic Region of Sweet Adelines and Sweet Adelines International—one of the world's most experienced vocal music education organizations. The conference begins Friday, August 1st through Saturday, August 2nd at the University of Massachusetts in Lowell, culminating with the Rising Star Quartet Competition Saturday afternoon.

The competition is scheduled for Saturday, August 2nd, 3:00 pm at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium in Lowell, Massachusetts. This annual barbershop contest offers an avenue for girls aged 25 years and younger to present their talents by competing among thirteen Rising Star quartets from Arizona, California, Connecticut, Maryland, Kansas, Ohio, Texas, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island. The Young Singers Foundation awards cash prizes of $2,000, $1,000 and $500 for first, second and third place winners of the Rising Star Quartet Competition.

The conference is for women who want to learn more about singing a cappella harmony in the Barbershop style! All participants will have the opportunity to sing in a chorus coached by some of our top educators, and those choruses will perform at the end of the Rising Star Quartet Competition. This event is open to directors, music educators, girls under the age of 25 and women who sing in choruses or quartets. The Rising Star Quartet Contest is open to the public. Tickets are $40 for general admission; $15 for youths, ages 16 – 26; free for kids under 6 and they can be purchased online at http://www.sai-region1.org or at the door.
