Galen Dole used to be a painfully shy kid, hiding behind his mother's skirt and stuttering slightly in kindergarten.
On Monday night, that once shy kid from Mukilteo will take the national television stage competing for a music contract and $100,000.
Dole is one of 15 members of The YellowJackets, an a cappella singing group -- without instruments -- from the University of Rochester in New York.
The YellowJackets will be featured on season three of NBC's show "The Sing-Off" which kicks off at 8 p.m. Monday.
"The Sing-Off" pits 16 a cappella groups against each other. The groups perform popular hits without the aid of lip-synching or backup bands. The show runs for 11 episodes where the number of groups is whittled down to three with help from the judges: Ben Folds (Ben Folds Five), Shawn Stockman (Boyz II Men) and Sara Bareilles. "The Sing-Off" is hosted by recording artist Nick Lachey.
