HomeMeet Your New CASA Ambassador: Lauren "Lo" Barreiro

CASA Communications's picture

Lo Barreiro is a recent Boston transplant from Tallahasse, Florida. She began studying voice at the ripe old age of 11 and spent her middle and high school years at performing arts magnet schools, so the transition to a cappella in college seemed only natural.
At Florida State University, Lo studied voice performance and recreation management in her spare time while devoting about 60 credit-hours to singing with and directing the AcaBelles, FSU's first and only all-female a cappella group. Her proudest achievement in college was having 2 of her arrangements featured on the Alice Tully Hall stage at Lincoln Center when AcaBelles competed in the ICCA Finals in 2009 (yes, the MTV year).
In the last year, Lo has also written multiple reviews and articles for CASA.org including a booklet on all-female arranging for CASAcademy, spent a week studying with a cappella masterminds Bill Hare and Deke Sharon at Soup 2 Nuts 2010, led workshops, panels, and masterclasses at SoJam 2010, became a team member of The Vocal Company as a consultant, producer, and arranger, and founded the all-female professional sextet Musae (@MusaeVocal).
Throughout her accomplishments thus far, Lo's favorite quote remains "LoLo is the new GaGa".  Ask Dave Brown, one of the hosts of the Mouth Off! podcast (@mouthoffshow) about that one.
Lo is very excited to be a new member of the Boston a cappella family and is having tons of fun meeting all of the aca-folk in the area.  Be sure to follow her on Twitter (@loloalexandra) and don't forget to contact her about any upcoming concerts, auditions, or events in the Boston area so she can make sure the whole community knows!
