Main Squeeze
Main Squeeze was founded way back in 2003 by Dara Melczer and Amanda Shimkin. These two ladies believed that there was a high demand for a cappella groups, but not enough opportunity for people (especially girls) to get involved. They wanted to create a group accessible for any girl who wanted to make music, and who wanted to have fun doing it.
Like the other a cappella groups on Syracuse University's campus, the name was inspired by our beloved school mascot, Otto the Orange. (See Groovestand, Orange Appeal, The Mandarins) Yes, we realize our mascot is a smiling round fruit. Deal with it.
Fine, fresh, fierce, Main Squeeze has got it on lock. In a short time, we've grown from just another all-girls' a cappella group into a seriously sassy force to be reckoned with. All of our members bring their own individual flair to the group. When we're not buried under mounds of homework, rehearsal, or snow, us girls like to just kick back and chill together. Maybe we'll bake some cookies and watch the game, or traverse a haunted house together while singing to the monsters. All these things have been known to happen. Who knows what we'll do next? (Hopefully not any more haunted houses...)
Main Squeeze will always continue to make music and have fun wherever and whenever possible, whether it's at a concert with an audience of 500, or in a living room without an audience at all. It's just how we roll.
