When Julia Easterlin takes the stage at the headliner concert Saturday night at the SheSings women’s a cappella festival at The Shedd, she’ll be a one-woman a cappella chorus.

She’ll perform alone with a loop pedal, a music gadget that allows her to record a segment of her own voice and then loop it back to accompany herself — in multiple layers.

Easterlin has used this unusual live technique to create compelling performances — she mostly does her own compositions, but sometimes sneaks in a Radiohead cover — at venues such as South by Southwest in Austin, Texas, Lollapalooza in Chicago and at a Technology, Entertainment and Design conference in Los Angeles.

The 24-year-old singer got started with the loop pedal accidentally.
