For 53 years, Ann Gooch has been bringing harmony into the world.

That’s how long the retired humanities professor has been singing in chapters of the Sweet Adelines International, an organization for women who love barbershop harmony, a style in which four-part harmony is sung a cappella.

Since 1975, Gooch, 75, has been director of the Jacksonville Harmony Chorus, a chapter of the Sweet Adelines that is celebrating its 50th year in the city.

She’s also been very involved in the leadership of the Sweet Adelines, which she attributes to the fact that she’s an Aries.

“Aries want to rule the world,” she said.
