Home'Glee' Finale Song Has Oregon Ties

EUGENE, Ore. -- A cover version of the Usher song “Yeah” appeared in the season finale of “Glee” and the show used an arrangement of the song created by an Oregon musician.

Evynne Hollens created the arrangement in 2004 for the a cappella group Divici at the University of Oregon in Eugene. She said it was a laughable idea at the time for a women’s group to perform a song by a male R&B artist, but it propelled the group to second place at an international singing competition.

Hollens said “Glee” producers contacted the group about using the 2005 recording in an episode, but later told them they were going in another direction. Then, a popular blog featured a spoiler copy of “Yeah” set to appear in the “Glee” finale. The blogger also featured the version recorded by Divici.

“There’s no question it’s the (same) arrangement,” said Hollens, who was not upset by Glee's move. “I just thought ‘Oh my gosh,’ one of my favorite shows is debuting my arrangement which I thought was pretty cool.
