University of North Texas graduate student Fiona Gillespie is excited about a unique opportunity the university’s a cappella choir has to get to the know the international singing community.
The UNT A Cappella Choir will be traveling to Daejeon, South Korea, for the International Choral Festival next week.
“We were so excited,” said Gillespie, one of 41 singers in the choir. “It was kind of a surprise.”
Although the invitation to an international festival was a surprise, the location wasn’t, she said.
Jerry McCoy, a regents professor who directs the choir and is the director of choral studies at UNT, has done a lot of work in South Korea.
In fact, earlier this year, McCoy conducted the Daejeon Philharmonic Choir.
