HICKORY — The style is virtually unknown in Hickory, a near secret, but it is capable of making a loud noise. And not just loud, but also subtly beautiful.
It is the Lenoir-Rhyne University A Cappella Choir. Since 1996, its director has been the Rev. Dr. Paul Weber. The choir will begin a state tour of North Carolina on Feb. 24 at the First United Methodist Church in Lenoir. From there, the choir will travel as far as New Bern before its homecoming on March 4 at the Viewmont Baptist Church in Hickory.
“We’re playing to our statewide constituency on this trip,” Weber said. “This choir has been a part of our campus life for 77 years, and we do have a following.”
