The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and Chorus America are excited to call for applications for several performance opportunities for choruses in the greater Washington, DC metropolitan area between June 9-15, 2014. During that time, the Kennedy Center will present the first National Choral Festival and Chorus America will simultaneously host its Annual Conference.
The Kennedy Center's National Choral Festival will spotlight choruses of all kinds from across the United States on the Millennium Stage and other venues at the Kennedy Center and in the community. The planning team is looking to involve local choruses in two primary ways: to kick-off the festival with a day of performances on Monday, 6/9/14 and to close the festival with a massed concert at the Verizon Center on Sunday, 6/15/14.
Chorus America's Annual Conference typically attracts 500 choral leaders from across North America and showcases choruses from the region. Returning to Washington, DC for the first time since 2006, the Annual Conference typically features a mix of keynote presentations, artistic and administrative breakout sessions, structured and informal networking opportunities, and concerts.
The Kennedy Center and Chorus America are very interested in presenting a diverse range of musical styles, working with ensembles of all sizes, both professional and volunteer, and welcoming singers of all ages. Both organizations will be providing national and regional marketing efforts for the Festival and the Conference, leading to significant visibility for participating ensembles. (Please note, however, that none of these performance opportunities include remuneration.)
We hope your chorus, chamber chorus, octet, quartet, or ensemble will be interested in applying for one or more of these exciting events in June 2014. Choruses chosen for these performance opportunities will be selected by an anonymous panel of chorus leaders from across North America.
