A cappella legend Jerry Lawson, who swore he was done with a cappella, now has a brilliant new group called Jerry Lawson & Talk of the Town. And they're a cappella. They recently appeared on the first of the televised Katrina benefits, where Rod Stewart requested the opportunity to join them on "People get Ready". The show aired in 140 countries on 8 major networks simultaneously and was repeated continuously for 72 hours. They raised over 30 million dollars. The resulting CD is being released on 11/20/05 with all proceeds going to three different charities.
Finally, I have something to report.
We've just finished 5th Korean a cappella festival.
More than 20 groups performed, and more than 2000 people came.
We enjoyed with each other all through the night.
2006 Boston Regional of the Harmony Sweepstakes A Cappella Festival. This is the 22nd year of the Harmony Sweepstakes A Cappella Festival, the premier American showcase for vocal harmony music, and the 16th year of the Boston Regional competition. The competition draws from and showcases the talents of hundreds of vocal groups around the country with regional competitions in several cities around the United States. The winning group from each regional competition is flown to Northern California to perform in front of celebrity judges and a sold out house of enthusiastic a cappella fans at the National Finals.
Well, I should be out catching moosebutter at the Nomad Theater performance tonight, but my wife says, "Not again. You've been acappelling every night this week," . . etc. so we're having a quiet evening and I'm taking a few minutes out to make this brief report before she misses me.
