Beyond All Reason
Beyond All Reason is Saint Louis University’s first and only all-female a cappella group. Founded in the fall of 2002 by Monica Reicks and Becky Phillips, two SLU students, Beyond All Reason (known around campus as BAR) started with 10 singers and has certainly come a long way since! Today we have grown to a comfortable size of 14 lovely singers and can be seen around campus performing at a multitude of events. We host two concert extravaganzas a year and sing for various other student organization-sponsored events, such as the three other fabulous SLU a cappella groups’ concerts, Relay For Life, Greek life events, etc.
We have also found ourselves a place in the St. Louis community in singing for a number of regional events, such as charity races to raise money for breast cancer research, holiday events in the Central West End, and St. Louis Cardinals games. Perhaps one of the more exciting opportunities we have been given was the chance to sing on live television! Just recently, BAR was featured on Fox 2 News singing the theme song of Sex and the City to help promote the highly anticipated release of Sex and the City 2.
Of course, the fact that we are the only all-female group allows for a unique sound. Since our vocal ranges are similar, we can perform close, tight-knit harmonies. Not only that, but we are able to achieve a blended sound that can only happen when all voices are female. Furthermore, we have a special sense of camaraderie that is not found in co-ed groups.
