What we're looking for...
BELT ROCK TENOR: (from theatre, think: "Pity the Child" from
CHESS, selections from RENT, or Judas/Jesus from JC SUPERSTAR; from a
cappella, think: Scott Leonard from Rockapella or Andrew White from
Return 2 Zero; Steve Keyes of Rockapella/The GrooveBarbers; from Rock,
think: Dennis DeYoung of Styx or Freddie Mercury of Queen).
TRUE LOW BASS: We are only looking for a bass vocalist with a
seriously resonant low range extending down to at least a low C. This
person must understand the role of a bass singer in contemporary a
cappella (think Bobby McFerrin, Alvin Chea of Take 6 or George Baldi of
Rockapella.) and possess the highest level of rhythmic improvisational
ability, have an impeccable sense of pitch and tuning as they are the
foundation of the group harmonically and control the feel for each song.
[i]Our music consists of either 6 vocal parts or 5 vocal parts with beatbox
vocal percussion. The arrangements can be very complex and you must be
able to hold your own part in a six part vocal group setting similar
to Take 6. Therefore, all positions require strong blend, balance,
tuning, and impeccable musicianship. All members must either read
music or be capable of learning music with a midi or vocal learning
track provided by the Musical Director. Improvisational ability,
imitating instruments/percussive sounds are a plus. MOST IMPORTANTLY, we
are only looking for responsible professionals.
