Washington DC A Cappella 2008/03/03 05:28 Karma: 0
I'm completely new to this forum, but not new to a cappella.

I moved back to the DC area after college last summer and since then I have been completely at a loss for much in the way of singing. After being in 3-4 different groups simultaneously for the past four years this feels like a bit of a void that needs to be filled. So, I ask, what are there in the way of DC Area a cappella group that are made up of people either out of college or a mix of in/after college peoples? I would imagine there is at least something, but I'm starting to look by starting here.

Anyone?

There is plenty of stuff in the DC area. Only a couple of groups are auditioning, but for concerts and stuff check out Cartoon Johnny, Tonic and Gin, DC Vocals, Skyline, Euphonism. A good look would be the Mid-Atlantic Sweeps line up.

If you're a bass, I'm a member of Tonic and Gin and we are auditioning for a bass. Let me know. nate@tonicandgin.com

I'll have to second Nate's suggestion - there is a thriving post-college a cappella scene here in DC. Depending on what you are looking for, I might have some more specific suggestions.

Two events coming up that you might want to check out -

Friday April 18, 8 pm at Holton Arms School in Bethesda
Catch the Tone Rangers, Euphonism and Skyline for Hugh's Mommapalooza.
www.tonerangers.com for details.

Saturday May 10, 1 pm - 6 pm at the Sylvan Theatre (grounds of the Wash Memorial)
There will be ten groups performing - A Cappella Showcase Chorus, BlueLine, DC Accidentals, dcVocals, Don't Quit Your Day Job, Euphonism, Skyline, the Tone Rangers, Tonic & Gin, and Venus D Minor

Not all of the groups have openings, but most are happy to talk to you and audition you for future spots! Plus it's a fun niche community

BlueLine is auditioning for a baritone and a first soprano - if either of those fits your voice, please contact ashley@bluelinedc.com. We're all post-collegiate, to say the least, but happy to sing with 20-somethings.

For more information, you can see our ad that I'm about to post on this forum .... or come to the May 10 gig at the Lincoln Monument, which Amanda and Nate mentioned. We're singing at 4 pm.

Or feel free to email me!

Thanks,
Kakki
